1. Who we are
Olive Arabic ("we", "us", "our") provides this website, a waitlist and email updates about our Levantine Arabic learning app.
The entity responsible for your personal information is ScopeWise Advisory Pty Ltd ABN 62 698 148 435 trading as Olive Arabic, based in New South Wales, Australia.
Contact: michael@olivearabic.com.
2. What this policy covers
This policy covers personal information used to run the Olive Arabic website, waitlist and email updates. It also covers contact details and email subscription preferences for people who helped test an earlier Olive Arabic web app and agreed to receive email updates. Former testers are recorded separately from people who joined the website waitlist.
This policy does not cover app account records, learning data, AI features or payments. Those require the relevant app privacy notice.
3. What we collect
- Contact information: your email address and any optional details or enquiries you give us, such as your name or how you found Olive Arabic.
- Subscription information: how your contact details were collected, your email-update permission and your subscription or opt-out status. Former-tester and website-waitlist sources are kept distinct.
- Website usage information: information about your device or browser, pages and actions, referring pages, campaign information and referral codes. Technical information may include your IP address. Section 7 explains the website analytics choice.
- Email-service information: information needed to deliver and secure emails, manage subscriptions, handle bounces and process unsubscribes. Mailchimp may also process information about link activity, including IP addresses and dates or times, for security and abuse prevention even when our optional click reports are off.
Referral codes are generated in your browser and may be recorded in analytics. We do not currently store referral codes or link individual signups to a referrer in our waitlist database.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive information through the website.
4. How we collect it
We collect information directly when you submit the signup form, send us an enquiry or provide contact details in connection with earlier testing and agree to receive updates. We also receive website usage information through PostHog and email-service information through Mailchimp as described in this policy.
We store website waitlist signups using Supabase. We may also use Mailchimp to manage email subscriptions and send Olive Arabic updates.
5. Why we use your information
We use personal information to manage the waitlist and email subscriptions, send Olive Arabic news and beta or early-access invitations, operate referral links, understand and improve the website, respond to enquiries and respect opt-out or deletion requests. We also use necessary information to secure these services and meet applicable legal obligations.
Where the EU or UK GDPR applies to these activities, we rely on consent for marketing emails and optional website analytics, legitimate interests where appropriate to operate and secure the website and respond to enquiries, and legal obligations where relevant. You can withdraw consent at any time.
6. Email updates and opting out
We send marketing emails about Olive Arabic only to people who have agreed to receive them. You can stop these emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in an email or by contacting michael@olivearabic.com. We action marketing unsubscribe requests within five working days.
Unsubscribing stops marketing emails. It does not itself delete a website waitlist record or an app account. You can separately ask us to delete your contact information. We may retain a minimal record of your email address and opt-out status where needed to prevent further marketing emails, or information we are required by law to keep.
7. Website storage and email reporting
We use browser storage to remember choices such as your theme and cookie preference. Optional website analytics is provided by PostHog. PostHog's software and configuration settings may load before you choose. This can involve sending technical request information, such as your IP address and a browser identifier, to PostHog. Website analytics event capture starts only after you accept it. You can decline or withdraw that choice using "Cookie settings" in the footer. Withdrawing stops future analytics capture and clears this website's PostHog analytics cookies and local or session storage in that browser; it does not automatically erase information already collected. You can contact us about deletion.
For our first reintroduction emails, we switch off Mailchimp's optional open and click reporting. Mailchimp may still redirect links and use information about clicks for security and abuse prevention. It also processes information to deliver emails, manage subscriptions and handle unsubscribes. These email activities are separate from our website analytics and are not controlled by the website's cookie settings.
8. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We use service providers to help run the website, waitlist and email updates, including:
- Supabase: our database and backend provider, which stores website waitlist signups.
- Mailchimp: our email provider, which helps manage subscriptions, send Olive Arabic updates and process unsubscribe requests.
- Netlify: our website hosting and content delivery provider.
- PostHog: our website analytics provider.
Mailchimp processes information on our behalf for email services. Its terms also describe certain processing for its own purposes, such as administration, security and product improvement. See the Intuit Global Privacy Statement for those activities.
PostHog's internal AI training setting is enabled for our account. PostHog says it may use analytics data to improve its own products and train its own AI models. It says it aggregates or removes identifying details so the resulting data cannot reasonably identify an individual, and does not allow other companies to use that data to train their AI models.
We may also disclose information where required by law.
9. International processing
Olive Arabic is based in Australia. Our waitlist database is hosted by Supabase in Ireland. When we use Mailchimp, email audience information is processed in the United States and may also be processed in other countries by its service providers. Our website analytics is configured to use PostHog's US service, and Netlify hosts and delivers our website through a global content delivery network.
Supabase and Mailchimp publish data-processing terms addressing security, confidentiality, service providers and international transfers. These include contractual transfer provisions where applicable. Database hosting in one country does not mean that all support, account, security or other processing stays in that country.
10. Retention and deletion
We keep website waitlist records until 12 months after the app launches, unless you ask us to delete them sooner. If you remain subscribed to Olive Arabic email updates, including after testing an earlier version of the app, we keep only the contact and subscription information needed for those updates and review it at least annually. We delete information that is no longer needed.
If you unsubscribe, we stop marketing emails and may keep the minimal do-not-email record described in Section 6 so that a later import does not add you again. You can request deletion by contacting michael@olivearabic.com; we will explain any information we need to retain and why.
Our PostHog website analytics uses a 12-month reporting window. This limits the data available in analytics reports; it does not, by itself, guarantee deletion of older information. You can contact us to request deletion.
Service logs, analytics and provider backups may have separate retention and deletion arrangements. Deletion from active records does not necessarily remove every provider copy immediately.
11. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including access controls and encryption in transit. No online service can be guaranteed completely secure.
12. Your rights
You can contact us to request access to your personal information, ask for correction or deletion, or unsubscribe from marketing. Depending on the laws that apply, you may also have rights to object to or restrict processing, request data portability or exercise other privacy rights.
Contact michael@olivearabic.com. We may need to check your identity before providing or changing personal information. If a request cannot be fully met, we will explain why, subject to applicable law.
13. Children
This website and waitlist are intended for adults. They are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16 through this site.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version and its last-updated date will be available on this page.
15. Contact and complaints
Send privacy questions or complaints to michael@olivearabic.com. We will review the issue, ask for any information needed to investigate and respond to you.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the relevant privacy regulator, where applicable. In Australia this is the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. Where EU or UK data-protection law applies, you may complain to the relevant supervisory authority.
